“I have set the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” — Psalm 16:8
Psalm 16 is a song of confidence, but not the kind that comes from having life neatly under control.
David’s security is found somewhere far deeper:
The Lord is before me.
To set the Lord before us is to keep returning our attention to what is true about Him—His presence, His character, His promises—especially when everything around us feels uncertain.
That does not mean we become untouched by fear or difficulty. It means our lives are anchored somewhere stronger than our circumstances.
Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
The right hand was a place of nearness and support. David’s confidence is not that he is strong enough to steady himself, but that God is close enough to hold him.
That is what I love about this mountain landscape. The valley stretches into the distance, the path winds beyond what can be seen, and the mountains rise on either side. There is no way to know every turn from where we stand.
Faith often feels like that.
We are rarely shown the whole road ahead. But Scripture does not ask us to secure the future before we can have peace. It calls us to keep the Lord before us and trust the One who already sees the whole way.
And Psalm 16 ultimately reaches beyond present circumstances to a deeper hope: a God who does not abandon His people to death, but leads them into fullness of joy in His presence.
The road may move beneath our feet.
God does not.

Beautiful vibrant picture! I would share a picture but the frame I ordered to go with it I have to trade out. But the print is wonderful and the scripture near and dear to me and my daughter’s heart. This picture is for her bedroom. She loved it as well! Her room is white and creams. This green with the white is perfect and stands out but in a classic unique pattern with the best scripture.
