The Story Behind The Print
“I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” — Psalm 121:1–2
Psalm 121 begins by looking towards the mountains.
They appear strong, ancient and immovable. But the psalmist’s confidence is not ultimately in the hills before him.
My help comes from the Lord.
The mountains are creation. His help comes from the Creator.
That distinction is at the heart of the psalm. Our security does not rest in having enough strength, control or certainty to carry ourselves through whatever lies ahead. It rests in the God who made heaven and earth—and who never stops watching over His people.
The rest of Psalm 121 repeats this truth again and again. The Lord does not slumber. He keeps watch. He guards our coming and going. His care is not occasional or distracted; it is constant.
That does not mean the journey will be free from difficulty. Biblical hope is deeper than a promise that nothing painful will happen. It is the assurance that whatever road we walk, we do not walk beyond the keeping care of God.
That is what makes this Monet landscape feel so fitting beside the full psalm. Mountains rise across the horizon, larger than anything in the foreground, yet even they sit beneath the sky of the God who made them.
