“I lift up my eyes to the mountains; where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” — Psalm 121:1–2
Psalm 121 begins with a question.
The psalmist looks towards the mountains and asks, Where does my help come from?
His answer is not the mountains themselves.
My help comes from the Lord.
The One we look to is greater than anything we can see before us because He is the One who made it all. The mountains may appear strong and immovable, but our security rests in the God who spoke heaven and earth into being.
That is what makes this landscape feel so fitting for the verse. Great ridges stretch into the distance, autumn woodland fills the valley and the view seems to go on far beyond what we can see. It naturally draws the eye upward.
There are seasons when we do the same; looking ahead, wondering how we will manage what is coming or where help will come from.
Psalm 121 turns our eyes back to God.
The rest of the psalm tells us that He does not slumber, He watches over His people and He keeps them through every coming and going. Our confidence is not that the road ahead will always be easy, but that we travel it beneath the watchful care of the Lord.

Beautiful vibrant picture! I would share a picture but the frame I ordered to go with it I have to trade out. But the print is wonderful and the scripture near and dear to me and my daughter’s heart. This picture is for her bedroom. She loved it as well! Her room is white and creams. This green with the white is perfect and stands out but in a classic unique pattern with the best scripture.
