Psalm 121 begins with a question.

The psalmist looks towards the mountains and asks, Where does my help come from?

His answer is not the mountains themselves.

My help comes from the Lord.

The One we look to is greater than anything we can see before us because He is the One who made it all. The mountains may appear strong and immovable, but our security rests in the God who spoke heaven and earth into being.

That is what makes this landscape feel so fitting for the verse. Great ridges stretch into the distance, autumn woodland fills the valley and the view seems to go on far beyond what we can see. It naturally draws the eye upward.
