Be still.

This does not simply mean finding a quiet room, calming our thoughts or stepping away from busyness. In context, it is a command to cease striving—to stop our frantic attempts to secure ourselves and remember that God alone is sovereign. The nations may rage, but they cannot overturn His purposes. He will be exalted.

The peace of this psalm is therefore not found in gaining control over our circumstances, but in knowing the One who rules over them. God is not distant from the trouble. He is the refuge and ever-present help of His people; the unshakable security no earthly kingdom can provide.
