Psalm 42 is not written from a place of easy contentment.
The psalmist is thirsty for God. His soul is downcast, tears have been his food, and the presence of God that once felt near now seems painfully distant.
And yet, beneath all of that sorrow is a beautiful confession:
My soul thirsts for God.
Not simply for changed circumstances. Not only for relief, answers or easier days—but for God Himself.
That is what makes the image of the deer so powerful. Water is not an optional comfort to a thirsty animal; it is something it needs. In the same way, Scripture reminds us that our deepest need cannot ultimately be satisfied by what the world gives us. We were made for God.

A beautiful print, with the words to ‘Be Still My Soul’ underneath. The print color is exactly what I saw on the website. It is on sturdy stock, and came in a timely manner. I will order more from this company!
