Jesus does not tell us to ignore our worries. He turns our attention towards something we might otherwise pass by:
Consider the flowers.
They do not exhaust themselves trying to secure their beauty, yet God clothes them with a splendour greater than Solomon’s. Their beauty is received, not achieved.
This does not mean that work, planning or responsibility are unimportant. Jesus is speaking to the anxious belief that everything depends upon us—that if we stop striving, even for a moment, life may fall apart.
The flowers tell a different story.
They remind us that we live beneath the care of a Father who knows what we need. The One who gives such attention to something so brief has not overlooked His children.
