Jesus spoke these words to His disciples on the night before His crucifixion.
They were about to face grief, confusion and the apparent loss of everything they thought would happen. Jesus knew what was coming, yet He did not promise them an easy path or a life untouched by trouble.
He promised them His peace.
The peace the world offers is often tied to circumstances: a problem resolved, a plan secured or the future brought safely under our control. It lasts for as long as life feels manageable.
But Jesus says, “I do not give to you as the world gives.”
His peace is different. It is not the denial of pain or the absence of fear, but the steady assurance that we belong to Him. Even as Jesus prepared to leave His disciples, He promised that they would not be abandoned. The Holy Spirit would remain with them, reminding them of His words and making His presence known.
